Eating lunch infront of the computer !

I hate to eat lunch in office cafeteria alone and would gladly skip lunch if I don't have company. But it was a rude shock for me to find some on site colleagues having their lunch (sandwich) in front of the computer @ work. Damn, thought how unsocial this :-( and was wondering what is wrong with these guys! But, I guess these guys really take their 8 hours at work too seriously, while we in India have an idea of extending this 8 hours to an extra hour or two, since we think it is important to socialize with colleagues/friends at work during lunch or tea time or chatting online with a friend or chatting with a friend on sports/current affairs. Lunch for an hour is certainly a luxury for on site colleagues but not for offshore workers here. Socializing helps in a way to beat the drudgery that one hits at work.

i agree that lunch/coffee breaks breaks the drudgery out of this work, but i think it is being overdone most of the time. i myself used to indulge in huge coffee breaks all the time and guess what it doesn't help. all you did was cursing the company or the work. life is better without that lunch break fir me.

It depends. You cannot skip the lunch every day if you don't have company. Instead of sitting in the cafetaria alone watching the boring CNN you can eat your lunch sitting infront of your computer. There no wrong it that until the person keep the place clean not allowing his/her pet friends take over the place.

One more thing I came across one of my best friend in the Temple last week. He and his friends have started a new web site called www.YourFunSpace.com. Please visit the site and pre-register on it. Spread the words and lets help an Indian website to grow.

I totally agree with you. I don't mind eating on my own. But there has to be break in the monotony that could be your work. Even if the work is not monotonous, we need to aware that there is more to life than work!8 hours of work + 1 hour break for lunch is what we are paid for !

rahul,

cribbing :-) - it helps us all in a way to spill out all the frustrations to a friend ..

anon,

agreed.. i don't see any escape to that if you don't have company. but still when you are devoid of company, tv or just plain looking around or browsing around the internet seems to be a good hobby, but working while eating seriously is heights!

vidya,

nicely put!

Sometimes there is no time for a break... Eating in front of the computer is better than staying hungry... Right?

I dont eat @ my desk. Simply because I dont like to make a mess of my desk if food spills.

And also the smell of food lingers which is irritating sometimes.

However it is a great time saver to have a quick lunch.

Socializing can be done outside of work, not at work.
